Apothic Merlot 2021

Regular price £11.75

A plush, dark-fruited Merlot with mocha, vanilla, and a velvety finish. Soft, indulgent, and made for immediate comfort.

From the heart of California’s sun-soaked vineyards, Apothic Wines - part of the legendary E. & J. Gallo family - has built a reputation for bold, indulgent red wines with a modern edge.

The 2021 Apothic Merlot is a plush and velvety expression of this style, showcasing ripe blackberry, black cherry, and blueberry layered with mocha, vanilla, and toasted oak. Medium to full-bodied with soft, approachable tannins and a lingering chocolate-kissed finish, it reflects both the richness of California fruit and Apothic’s signature craftsmanship.

Designed for easy enjoyment yet offering plenty of depth, this Merlot embodies the bold, smooth character that has made Apothic one of California’s most popular wine producers.

Description

Apothic Merlot 2021 is made squarely in the modern, soft-edged California style that emphasises richness of impression, smooth texture, and generous fruit. Apothic as a brand has built its success on wines that are dark, polished, and immediately gratifying, and the Merlot follows that formula very clearly.

This is not a classic Right Bank-inspired Merlot with savoury structure and restrained oak. Instead, the focus is on plum and blackberry fruit, rounded tannins, and a little mocha-and-vanilla sweetness of impression that makes the wine feel plush and easy. That positioning is deliberate, and it works for drinkers who want a red that is comforting and low in resistance.

Style

A dry red in technical terms, but it gives a notably plush and sweet-fruited impression because of its ripe fruit profile and soft oak framing. Medium-bodied, smooth, and rounded, it is designed for immediate enjoyment.
