BenMarco Malbec 2022
A serious, terroir-minded Malbec with dark fruit, violet, and stony freshness. Structured, refined, and more mineral than plush.
Crafted by renowned winemaker Edgardo del Pópolo under the BenMarco label - part of Susana Balbo’s Dominio del Plata - the BenMarco Malbec 2022 is a masterful expression of Argentina’s Uco Valley, specifically the high-altitude subregion of Los Chacayes.
Grown in stony, mineral-rich soils at the foot of the Andes, this 100% Malbec reflects both terroir precision and winemaking expertise. It opens with intense aromas of black cherry, plum, and violet, followed by a palate layered with dark fruit, chalky minerality, and hints of mocha and spice from aging in second-use French oak.
Structured yet vibrant, this Malbec captures the energy and elegance of high-altitude Mendoza - making it a standout choice for lovers of bold, expressive red wines with depth and regional authenticity.
BenMarco Malbec 2022 is one of the bottles in this batch that moves away from simple varietal comfort and toward a more site-expressive, premium style. Associated with higher-altitude Mendoza fruit and a more detail-driven philosophy, BenMarco often aims to show Malbec with more tension, floral complexity, and mineral definition than broad commercial bottlings.
That means the wine is not primarily about sweetness of fruit or oak comfort. Instead, it tends to show a darker, more serious profile with clearer tannic structure and a finish that feels drier, more stony, and more architectural than plush. This gives it real credibility for those who want to see Malbec as a serious fine-wine grape rather than just an easy steakhouse red.
In 2022, the style remains expressive, but disciplined. There is enough fruit to satisfy, yet the wine feels more grown-up and terroir-driven than most of the category.
A dry, medium- to full-bodied red with firmer structure and more mineral freshness than soft, commercial Malbec. It still offers dark fruit and floral lift, but the emphasis is on shape and detail rather than simple plushness.
This is a bottle for those who want Malbec with seriousness. In simple terms: a more refined, structured Mendoza Malbec — less glossy, more site-expressive.
