Canopée de Mauvesin Barton 2022
A vibrant and approachable Haut-Médoc from the Barton family, offering ripe red berries, plum, subtle spice, and polished tannins. Fresh, fruit-driven, and immediately appealing, it delivers classic Bordeaux character in a softer, more accessible style than many traditional Left Bank wines.
Canopée de Mauvesin Barton 2022 is a distinctive Bordeaux produced by the renowned Barton family, owners of the historic estates Château Léoville Barton and Château Langoa Barton. Following their acquisition of Château Mauvesin Barton in 2011, the family expanded their vision beyond Moulis-en-Médoc to create wines that combine traditional Bordeaux expertise with a fresher, more approachable style.
Canopée is sourced from selected vineyards in the Haut-Médoc owned by the estate, planted on clay-limestone soils that provide freshness, balance, and excellent water retention. These vineyard sites are farmed using sustainable viticultural practices and harvested by hand, reflecting the Barton family's commitment to quality throughout the portfolio.
The wine is vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with gentle extraction designed to preserve fruit purity rather than emphasise power. Following fermentation, the wine spends approximately twelve months in oak barrels, gaining texture and complexity while maintaining its vibrant fruit profile.
A highly appealing Bordeaux that delivers pedigree and authenticity without requiring extended cellaring or specialist knowledge to appreciate.
The 2022 Bordeaux vintage was one of the strongest of the decade, producing wines with exceptional ripeness, concentration, and balance. In Canopée, this translates into generous fruit, supple texture, and excellent accessibility while still retaining enough structure and freshness to remain unmistakably Bordeaux in character. The vintage's warmth is balanced by the estate's clay-limestone terroir, which helped maintain freshness throughout the growing season.
Unlike the more structured and age-worthy Château Mauvesin Barton, Canopée is intended to be enjoyed earlier, focusing on charm, fruit expression, and immediate pleasure. It represents an excellent introduction to Left Bank Bordeaux from one of the region's most respected wine families.
Canopée de Mauvesin Barton 2022 is a dry, medium-bodied Bordeaux with ripe red fruit, silky tannins, and refreshing acidity. The wine emphasises fruit purity and approachability, offering a softer and more open-knit expression than many traditional Médoc wines.
The 2022 vintage gives the wine greater generosity and texture, while careful winemaking preserves freshness and balance. Oak influence remains subtle, adding polish rather than dominating the fruit.
