An exceptional and rarely released Douro red from Casa Ferreirinha, the historic Portuguese estate responsible for the legendary Barca Velha. First created in 1960, Reserva Especial is produced only in selected vintages, with the 2009 representing just the 17th release in the wine's history.
Crafted under the direction of renowned winemaker Luís Sottomayor, the 2009 is sourced from carefully selected vineyards at Quinta da Leda and surrounding higher-altitude sites in the Douro Superior. A traditional blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, matured in French oak.
Awarded 93+ points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, this limited-production vintage represents an important expression of one of Portugal's most prestigious wine estates.

Casa Ferreirinha stands among Portugal's most historic and prestigious wine producers, with a heritage closely associated with Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, the pioneering 19th-century figure whose influence helped shape the modern Douro wine industry.
The house is internationally renowned for Barca Velha, first produced in 1952 and widely regarded as one of Portugal's greatest red wines. Reserva Especial follows a similarly exacting production philosophy, with wines undergoing prolonged maturation and assessment before their final classification.
Under the direction of Luís Sottomayor, Casa Ferreirinha continues to produce some of the Douro's most distinguished and age-worthy wines.
The 2009 growing season in the Douro was characterised by exceptionally hot, dry summer conditions, particularly during August, which accelerated ripening and contributed to wines of considerable concentration and structure.
Fruit was sourced from Quinta da Leda and selected higher-altitude vineyards in the Douro Superior. The final blend comprised Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, combining the depth and intensity of the vintage with the characteristic complexity of the region.
The resulting wine is a powerful expression of the Douro, distinguished by its concentration, firm structure and substantial ageing potential.
