The Crushed Grape

Château d’Agassac 2022

Regular price £23.95

A superb Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel from the outstanding 2022 Bordeaux vintage, offering ripe cassis, blackberry, cedar, graphite, and polished tannins. Richer and more concentrated than recent vintages, yet retaining the freshness and balance that have long defined Château d’Agassac.

Château d’Agassac 2022 is the flagship wine of one of the Haut-Médoc’s most historic and respected estates. Located in Ludon-Médoc, close to the Gironde Estuary, the château has established itself as one of the leading properties of the southern Médoc and today holds the prestigious Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel classification.

Compared with the more classical and restrained 2021 vintage, the 2022 offers significantly greater concentration, depth, and generosity. The fruit profile is darker and more intense, the tannins are richer and silkier, and the overall impression is one of greater scale and ageing potential.

While Château d’Agassac has always represented excellent value within the Médoc, the quality of the 2022 vintage elevates the wine to a level that competes comfortably with many more expensive classified growths.

An outstanding opportunity to enjoy a top-performing Cru Bourgeois from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated recent vintages.

Description

The 2022 Bordeaux vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest of the modern era. Despite a hot and dry growing season, the best estates achieved extraordinary concentration while maintaining freshness and balance. Château d’Agassac was particularly successful, producing a wine with remarkable fruit intensity, ripe tannins, and excellent precision.

The blend is typically dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. Careful vinification and maturation in French oak barrels allow the wine to develop complexity without losing the vibrant fruit character that is a hallmark of the estate.

Style

Château d’Agassac 2022 is a dry, medium- to full-bodied Bordeaux with concentrated black fruit, silky tannins, and impressive freshness. The warmth of the vintage brings richness and depth, while the estate’s terroir preserves balance and precision.

Unlike cooler vintages that emphasise structure and freshness, the 2022 combines power with accessibility. The wine feels generous and polished without sacrificing its Médoc identity.
