Description

Château Moncontour Vouvray “La Manoca” Sec comes from the Vouvray appellation in the Loire Valley, just east of Tours. This historic region is one of the benchmark areas for Chenin Blanc, known for producing wines that combine freshness, structure, and remarkable versatility across dry and sweeter styles.

The wine is made entirely from Chenin Blanc, grown on the region’s distinctive tuffeau limestone soils. These chalky soils help retain water and reflect sunlight, allowing for slow, even ripening while preserving the grape’s naturally high acidity. The 2024 vintage delivered good ripeness, resulting in a wine that balances fruit expression with precision.

“La Manoca” is crafted in a dry (Sec) style, highlighting Chenin Blanc’s ability to produce wines with both freshness and underlying texture. Château Moncontour, with a winemaking history dating back centuries, focuses on expressing the purity and structure of Vouvray through careful, clean vinification.

Style

A dry, medium-bodied white that combines crisp acidity with a subtle sense of weight and texture. Chenin Blanc naturally brings more structure than many white grapes, giving the wine a slightly fuller, more layered feel.

While it is technically dry, there is often a soft, rounded impression on the palate due to the grape’s ripe fruit and texture. The wine feels both fresh and gently rich at the same time, making it more versatile than sharper, leaner whites.

  • Appearance: Pale gold with bright reflections.
  • Nose: Lemon, apple, quince, and subtle honeyed notes.
  • Palate: Fresh citrus and orchard fruit with gentle richness.
  • Texture: Medium-bodied with lively acidity and soft roundness.
  • Finish: Clean, structured, and lightly mineral.
  • Overall Impression: A classic dry Vouvray that combines freshness, texture, and quiet complexity — a versatile and age-worthy expression of Chenin Blanc.
  • Roast Chicken – Structure and acidity suit savoury poultry.
  • Pork with Apple or Cream Sauce – Fruit and acidity complement richness.
  • Goat’s Cheese – Classic Loire pairing with tangy freshness.
  • Seafood in Butter Sauces – Texture supports richer preparations.
  • Vegetable Dishes – Works well with roasted or creamy vegetables.
  • Serve chilled at 9–11°C to balance freshness and texture.
  • No decanting required; allow a few minutes in the glass to open.
  • Use a medium to large white wine glass to showcase complexity.
  • Enjoy now for its freshness, or cellar for 5–8 years as Chenin Blanc develops added honeyed and nutty complexity over time.
