Château Pesquié “Artemia” Rouge 2005
A mature and deeply expressive Rhône-style red from Ventoux, showing layers of dark fruit, leather, dried herbs, pepper, and earthy complexity. Rich, savoury, and beautifully evolved, with the depth and structure of a top southern Rhône at full maturity.
Château Pesquié “Artemia” Rouge 2005 is one of the standout mature vintages from this highly regarded Ventoux estate in the southern Rhône Valley. Produced from elevated hillside vineyards at the foot of Mont Ventoux, Artemia has long been recognised as Château Pesquié’s flagship cuvée, demonstrating the serious ageing potential and refinement possible from the appellation.
Rated 92–94 points - “A tour de force for the appellation, the 2005 Artemia shows superb concentration, structure, and definition. A brilliant success that underscores the quality of Château Pesquié’s terroir.” - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
This offers a rare opportunity to experience mature Rhône-style wine with nearly two decades of bottle age - at a level of value that would be extremely difficult to replicate in more famous appellations such as Côte-Rôtie or Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The blend is built primarily around Syrah, supported by Grenache, sourced from limestone-rich vineyards whose altitude provides essential freshness and aromatic precision. The cooling mountain influence is especially important in warmer vintages, helping preserve structure and balance while allowing full phenolic ripeness.
The 2005 Rhône vintage is widely regarded as one of the strongest of the modern era, producing wines with exceptional concentration, structure, and longevity. In Artemia, the vintage’s power has now evolved into layered tertiary complexity while still retaining remarkable depth and energy. The wine has moved well beyond primary fruit, developing savoury Rhône maturity characterised by leather, olive, spice, tobacco, dried herbs, and forest-floor nuances.
Unlike many heavily extracted southern reds that fade with age, mature Artemia retains impressive freshness and cohesion. The Syrah component gives the wine pepper, structure, and dark savoury character, while Grenache contributes warmth and richness beneath the evolved complexity.
A dry, full-bodied Rhône-style red with mature dark fruit, savoury tertiary complexity, and softened but still structured tannins. Time has transformed the wine from powerful and fruit-driven into something more layered, earthy, and refined.
The wine remains broad and substantial, but the maturity now emphasises spice, leather, herbs, and texture over simple fruit richness. Fresh acidity and mineral structure continue to hold the wine together beautifully despite its age.
In simple terms: a mature and fully evolved Rhône-style red - rich, earthy, savoury, and deeply complex, offering the kind of bottle-aged character usually associated with far more expensive win
