Clos du Roy Fronsac 2019
A rich and expressive Right Bank Bordeaux with ripe dark fruit, smooth tannins, and polished structure. Generous, balanced, and beautifully composed.
Experience the refined boldness of Right Bank Bordeaux with the 2019 Clos du Roy - a Merlot-dominant blend from Vignobles Hermouet.
This deep garnet wine delivers expressive aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum, enriched by cedar, tobacco, and subtle herbaceous and floral notes. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied and richly textured, offering layers of dark fruit preserves, espresso, chocolate, licorice, and black pepper - built on firm, ripe tannins and finished with minty freshness and saline lift.
At ~15% ABV, it’s structured yet polished, balancing power with elegance.
Scoring 90–93 pts across major critics, this vintage offers exceptional value and depth. Ready to enjoy now or cellar through 2030–31. Perfect with roast lamb, grilled beef, game dishes, rich stews, or aged cheeses.
Full-bodied. Flavourful. Bordeaux brilliance at an exceptional price.
Clos du Roy Fronsac 2019 comes from the Fronsac appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, an area known for producing structured, Merlot-led wines from limestone and clay soils similar to neighbouring Saint-Émilion. These soils provide both water retention and minerality, helping to create wines with depth and balance.
The blend is typically dominated by Merlot, with Cabernet Franc adding lift and structure. The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux is widely regarded as excellent, combining ripeness, concentration, and freshness. This results in wines that are both approachable in youth and capable of ageing.
Clos du Roy is one of the historic estates of Fronsac, producing wines that reflect traditional Right Bank character with a modern, polished edge. The focus is on careful extraction and controlled ageing to maintain fruit clarity while building structure and complexity.
A dry, medium- to full-bodied red that offers more richness and roundness than the 2018, with a slightly softer and more polished feel. The tannins are present but well-integrated, giving structure without harshness.
The wine leans toward a generous, fruit-driven style while still retaining the classic Bordeaux balance of fruit, acidity, and subtle savoury character. It feels approachable now but has enough structure to develop further.
