Conde Valdemar Reserva 2019
A classic, well-balanced, and elegant Rioja Reserva with a modern touch. Balances ripe fruit, elegant oak aging, and freshness, making it a versatile and refined choice for lovers of structured, age-worthy reds.
This Reserva is anchored by Tempranillo, the cornerstone grape of Rioja, which provides structure, depth, and classic regional character. A smaller proportion of Graciano adds aromatic intensity, freshness, and firm structural tension, enhancing the wine’s aging capacity. Mazuelo (Carignan) contributes acidity, backbone, and subtle complexity.
Conde Valdemar Reserva is a polished expression of Spain’s renowned Rioja region, crafted in the traditional Reserva style that emphasizes structure, balance, and extended maturation. The 2019 vintage is widely regarded as excellent, delivering fruit with freshness, concentration, and aging potential.
The blend is led by Tempranillo, Rioja’s flagship grape, supported by smaller proportions of Graciano and Mazuelo to enhance aromatic lift, structure, and longevity. Aging in a combination of American and French oak barrels, followed by further bottle refinement, ensures integration and complexity while preserving the wine’s regional character.
Produced by Bodegas Valdemar, a family-owned estate with winemaking roots dating back to the late 19th century, this Reserva reflects a balance of tradition and modern precision. The winery is known for estate vineyards and meticulous oak management, resulting in wines that consistently express Rioja’s heritage with clarity and refinement.
A mature Rioja Reserva with developed red fruit, cedar, tobacco, and softened tannins from extended ageing. The style is elegant, savoury, and traditionally Rioja in character.
In simple terms: a smooth and mature Rioja — mellow, layered, and beautifully balanced with age.
- Appearance: Deep, bright cherry color with ruby hues.
- Aroma: Complex bouquet featuring ripe black fruits such as blackberries and cassis, intertwined with subtle spicy notes of toffee, licorice, and sweet spices. Additional hints of underbrush, aromatic herbs, and mineral nuances contribute to its aromatic depth.
- Palate: Generous and intense flavors of plums, raisins, and chocolate dominate the palate. The wine is beautifully balanced, showcasing a harmonious integration of fruit and oak, leading to a long, persistent finish
- Shines best with grilled meats, roasted dishes, aged cheeses, and rich Mediterranean flavors, making it an excellent choice for hearty meals.
- Avoid: Delicate seafood (except grilled tuna or swordfish). Highly acidic dishes like citrus-heavy salads. Overly spicy foods (which might overpower the wine’s elegance)
- Serve at 16–18°C to allow the wine’s structure and aromatics to show at their best.
- Decanting for 30–45 minutes will help soften the tannins and enhance integration.
