Where Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is lush and dessert-like, Mantuano is slightly drier and more versatile, offering caramel, dried fruit, spice and gentle oak without becoming overly sweet. It works beautifully in Rum Old Fashioneds, Mai Tais, premium Cuba Libres or simply neat over ice.
Named for the Venezuelan word “mantuano”, meaning a nobleman or gentleman of high standing, this rum honours Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, the master rum collector and inspiration behind the Diplomático brand.
Diplomático rums are produced at Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) in Venezuela, one of Latin America’s best-known premium rum distilleries. The company uses a unique blend of three distillation systems — copper pot stills, batch kettles and column stills — to create layered flavour, texture and balance across their range.
