Domaine Pierre Martin Sancerre 2025
A classic Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc: fresh, precise and mineral, with vibrant citrus and orchard fruit balanced by the characteristic flinty character associated with Sancerre.
Produced by Pierre Martin at Domaine de la Varenne in Chavignol, one of Sancerre's most celebrated wine villages, this is a beautifully clean expression of 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The emphasis is on purity and freshness rather than oak, allowing the vineyard character to remain firmly at the forefront.
Expect lemon, grapefruit, green apple and white flowers, complemented by subtle mineral and flinty notes. Crisp acidity gives the wine a refreshing, persistent finish.
It's an excellent choice for customers looking for a classic, premium Sancerre – particularly alongside seafood, goat's cheese or lighter dishes.
Domaine Pierre Martin is based in Chavignol, a small village within the Sancerre appellation renowned both for Sauvignon Blanc and its famous Crottin de Chavignol goat's cheese.
Pierre Martin represents the family's third generation and works approximately 18 hectares of vineyards around Chavignol. The domaine produces its wines with an emphasis on expressing Sancerre's distinctive soils and terroir.
The Sancerre Blanc is produced entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, fermented and matured without an emphasis on oak, preserving the grape's naturally aromatic character, crisp acidity and mineral precision.
The result is a quintessential Sancerre: elegant rather than exuberant, combining ripe fruit with freshness and the subtle mineral character for which the appellation is known.
This is a dry, light-to-medium-bodied white with high freshness and pronounced mineral character.
Think lemon, grapefruit and crisp green apple, followed by white flowers and a subtle flinty, stony quality.
Compared with a typical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, this is less overtly tropical and herbaceous, with more emphasis on citrus, minerality and restrained elegance.
In simple terms: crisp, elegant and mineral – classic Chavignol Sancerre.
- Nose: Fresh and aromatic with lemon, grapefruit, green apple and delicate white flowers, accompanied by subtle mineral and flinty notes.
- Palate: Crisp and precise, with bright citrus and orchard fruit supported by refreshing acidity. Mineral notes provide additional complexity while the fruit remains clean and focused.
- Finish: Long, refreshing and dry, with lingering citrus, green fruit and a distinctive mineral edge.
- Goat's Cheese – particularly Crottin de Chavignol, the classic local pairing.
- Oysters & Shellfish – crisp acidity and minerality are ideal with fresh seafood.
- Grilled White Fish – complements delicate fish without overpowering it.
- Smoked Salmon – acidity cuts beautifully through the richness.
- Chicken & Light Poultry – particularly with herb or citrus-based sauces.
- Fresh Salads – excellent with goat's cheese, asparagus and green vegetables.
- Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. There's no need to decant; simply open shortly before serving.
- A medium-sized white-wine glass works well, allowing the citrus and floral aromatics to develop while retaining the wine's freshness.
- The youthful 2025 vintage should be particularly vibrant now, although good Sancerre can comfortably develop additional complexity over several years.
