The Crushed Grape

Palazzo Della Torre Allegrini 2022

Regular price £22.99

A rich yet polished Veronese red with ripe dark fruit, smooth texture, and subtle Amarone-inspired depth. Generous, refined, and highly versatile.

From the Veneto region, crafted by Allegrini, one of Italy’s most prestigious and innovative wineries. Made in a Ripasso-style, this wine blends fresh and dried grapes to produce a wine that is both vibrant and full-bodied, with layers of flavour and smooth complexity. The wine takes its name from Villa della Torre, the historic Renaissance estate owned by the Allegrini family.

Composed primarily of Corvina Veronese, with Rondinella and a touch of Sangiovese, it opens with enticing aromas of ripe cherry, plum, and dried berries, accented by sweet spice, cocoa, and subtle herbal notes. On the palate, it’s velvety and well-rounded, with soft tannins, balanced acidity, and a lingering, warm finish.

A perfect introduction to the richness of appassimento-style wines, offering Amarone-like character in a more approachable and versatile form. Ideal with hearty dishes, mature cheeses, or simply enjoyed on its own.

Description

Palazzo della Torre is produced in Veneto, in the Valpolicella zone near Verona - an area internationally renowned for Amarone. This wine is made using a partial appassimento technique, where a portion of the harvested grapes is dried before fermentation. This traditional method, inspired by Amarone production, adds depth, structure, and richness while maintaining freshness and balance.

The blend is led by Corvina and Corvinone, supported by Rondinella and other native varieties typical of the region. The appassimento component enhances concentration and texture, while careful vinification ensures the wine remains elegant rather than heavy.

Produced by Allegrini, one of Valpolicella’s most respected historic estates, Palazzo della Torre represents a modern interpretation of regional tradition. It bridges everyday approachability with the layered character associated with the area’s most prestigious wines.

Style

A dry, medium- to full-bodied red that offers more depth and structure than a standard Valpolicella, but without the weight or intensity of a full Amarone. It sits comfortably in the middle — generous and rounded, yet balanced and polished.

The wine feels smooth and layered on the palate, with supple tannins and enough freshness to keep it lively and food-friendly. The partial drying process gives added richness and a slightly more concentrated profile, but the overall impression remains elegant rather than overpowering.

In simple terms: fuller and more textured than an everyday Italian red, yet more approachable and versatile than Amarone — a refined, modern Veronese style that works beautifully at the table.
