Description

Finca Museum Reserva is an expressive red from Spain’s Cigales DO, a historic region increasingly recognised for structured, age-worthy Tempranillo wines. The continental climate - defined by hot summers, cold winters, and significant diurnal shifts - allows for full ripening while preserving natural acidity and balance.

Crafted predominantly from old-vine Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Fino), the wine benefits from low yields and concentrated fruit grown in poor, well-draining soils. Extended aging in oak barrels enhances structure and complexity, integrating spice and depth while maintaining varietal purity.

Produced by Bodegas Finca Museum, a winery dedicated to preserving historic Tempranillo vineyards, the estate focuses on vineyard expression and meticulous barrel management. The Reserva tier reflects both power and refinement, highlighting the evolving reputation of Cigales as a serious red wine region.

Style

A full-bodied Tempranillo from Cigales with concentrated dark fruit, spice, and oak-aged depth. The wine combines Spanish richness and structure with polished tannins and freshness that keeps the palate balanced.

In simple terms: a serious Spanish Reserva — rich, intense, and built for customers who enjoy bold reds with depth and complexity.

  • Appearance: Deep cherry-red color with purple hues at the rim.
  • Nose: Aromas of red berries, blackcurrants, and cranberries, complemented by notes of salty liquorice, ginger, and subtle spices. Swirling the glass reveals hints of minerals, roasting, and exotic wood.
  • Palate: Powerful and full-bodied with vibrant acidity and a velvety texture. The long-lasting finish carries notes of roasted hazelnut, minerals, and elegant wood nuances.
  • Finish: Persistent with hints of spice, minerality, and refined oak
  • Grilled Ribeye or T-Bone Steak – The wine’s firm tannins bind with the protein and fat, softening its structure while amplifying its depth and oak spice.
  • Roast Lamb Shoulder – Rich, herb-crusted lamb complements the wine’s concentration and savoury undertones.
  • Slow-Braised Beef or Oxtail – Long-cooked dishes mirror the Reserva’s layered complexity and structured profile.
  • Barbecued Pork Ribs – Smoky, caramelised flavours align with the wine’s ripe fruit and subtle toasted oak character.
  • Game Dishes (Venison or Duck) – The wine’s bold structure and depth stand up to the intensity of game meats.
  • Aged Sheep’s Cheese – Firm, nutty cheeses enhance the fruit while harmonising with the wine’s tannic backbone.
  • Serve at 16–18°C to allow its structure and depth to show at their best.
  • A decant of 45–60 minutes is recommended to help open the aromatics and soften the firm tannins, particularly in its youth.
  • Use a large red wine glass to encourage aeration and allow the wine’s layered complexity to develop fully.
  • This Reserva has the structure to evolve further over the next several years if cellared in cool, stable conditions, but is already showing impressive balance and integration.
