Overview & Distillery

Frangelico is Italy’s most famous hazelnut liqueur — sweet, nutty, smooth, and beautifully aromatic. Made using Tonda Gentile hazelnuts from Piedmont (considered among the finest in the world), Frangelico blends roasted hazelnut flavour with cocoa, vanilla, coffee, and delicate herbal tones. The result is a dessert-like liqueur with creamy sweetness, soft warmth, and remarkable versatility.

While distinctly rich, Frangelico is not heavy. It pours with toasted nut aromatics, gentle chocolate and vanilla notes, and a silky finish that complements cocktails, coffee drinks, and indulgent serves over ice. Thanks to its balance of sweetness, warmth, and aroma, it remains one of the world’s leading nut-based liqueurs — elegant, comforting, and unmistakably Italian.

Frangelico’s name and bottle shape pay homage to Fra Angelico, a 17th-century Christian friar and hermit said to have crafted liqueurs from hazelnuts and wild herbs in the hills of Piedmont. The bottle, shaped like a friar’s robe and tied with a corded rope, reflects this folklore and has become one of the most iconic bottle designs in the liqueur world.

The modern production takes place in Piedmont — the historic home of hazelnut cultivation and also the birthplace of Nutella and many of Italy’s most famous confectionery traditions. The use of local hazelnuts gives Frangelico its signature flavour: rich, aromatic, slightly sweet, and naturally creamy in aroma. Now owned by the Campari Group, Frangelico combines Italian heritage with global craftsmanship, maintaining its reputation as a luxurious, indulgent liqueur enjoyed around the world.
