Glendalough Distillery, established in 2011 in County Wicklow, is Ireland’s first craft distillery to explore international wood influences on Irish whiskey. The brand, named after the ancient monastic settlement of Glendalough (“the valley of two lakes”), represents a spiritual connection between nature, patience, and craft.
The use of Mizunara oak — sourced from Japan’s Hokkaido region and coopered in Japan before being shipped whole to Ireland — reflects Glendalough’s philosophy of curiosity and respect for tradition. Mizunara’s notoriously porous grain and unique oils impart rare flavours of sandalwood, spice, and floral incense, producing a whiskey unlike any other in Ireland.
