La Chablisienne Chablis Les Vénérables 2021

Regular price £24.95

La Chablisienne Chablis Les Vénérables 2021 is a beautifully refined expression of old-vine Chablis, produced from Chardonnay vines averaging over 50 years of age.

Greater vine maturity brings additional concentration, texture and complexity, resulting in a wine that offers far more depth than a typical village Chablis.

Layers of citrus, ripe orchard fruit and white blossom are complemented by the classic flinty minerality and crisp freshness that define the region.

Elegant yet richly textured, this is a superb white Burgundy for those seeking a step up from classic Chablis, with exceptional balance, remarkable purity and a long, mineral finish.

Description

Founded in 1923, La Chablisienne is one of the most respected producers in Burgundy, bringing together generations of local winegrowers with a shared commitment to producing wines that faithfully express the unique terroir of Chablis. Their reputation for consistency and quality has made them one of the benchmark names for mineral-driven Chardonnay.

Les Vénérables is produced exclusively from old Chardonnay vines, many planted more than half a century ago on the region's famous Kimmeridgian limestone soils. These mature vines naturally produce lower yields of intensely flavoured fruit, resulting in greater concentration, complexity and texture while retaining the vibrant freshness that makes Chablis so distinctive.

The 2021 vintage combines bright citrus fruit with elegant floral aromas, subtle stone fruit and pronounced mineral character. Fermented and matured in stainless steel to preserve its purity, it is a beautifully balanced Chablis with excellent ageing potential and outstanding food versatility.

Style

La Chablisienne Les Vénérables is a dry, medium-bodied Chardonnay that combines the freshness of classic Chablis with the added richness and concentration that comes from old vines. Expect crisp citrus fruit, subtle stone fruit and a beautifully textured palate supported by bright acidity and elegant minerality.

Unlike richer, oak-driven Chardonnays, this wine focuses on purity, freshness and terroir rather than buttery flavours. If you enjoy wines such as Premier Cru Chablis, Sancerre or premium Albariño, but are looking for greater depth and complexity without sacrificing freshness, Les Vénérables is an outstanding choice.

  • Nose: Elegant aromas of lemon zest, green apple and ripe pear mingle with white blossom, wet stone and delicate flinty mineral notes.
  • Palate: Fresh and beautifully textured, revealing layers of citrus, white peach and orchard fruit balanced by vibrant acidity and classic chalky minerality.
  • Finish: Long, clean and precise, leaving lingering notes of citrus, crushed stone and refreshing saline minerality.
  • Grilled Lobster – Rich shellfish beautifully complements the wine's depth and minerality.
  • Pan-Seared Scallops – Sweet scallops balance the wine's crisp acidity perfectly.
  • Roast Chicken – Elegant fruit and freshness lift the delicate flavours.
  • Monkfish – Firm-textured fish pairs wonderfully with the wine's concentration.
  • Goat's Cheese – Creamy tanginess enhances the wine's vibrant citrus notes.

  • Serve chilled at 10–12°C – Allows the wine's complexity and mineral character to shine.

  • Use a medium-sized white wine glass – Enhances the citrus, floral and mineral aromas.
  • Drink now or cellar – Enjoy today or cellar for 6–10 years to develop additional complexity.
