The Crushed Grape

Louis Jadot Macon Villages 2023

Regular price £16.49

A fresh and elegant southern Burgundy Chardonnay with bright citrus, orchard fruit, and a clean mineral finish. Crisp, balanced, and beautifully approachable.

Crafted by one of Burgundy’s most respected producers, the 2023 Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages offers a beautifully pure expression of unoaked Chardonnay from the limestone-rich soils of the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy. This vintage is fermented entirely in stainless steel, allowing the varietal’s vibrant fruit character and minerality to shine without interference from oak.

In the glass, it presents a pale straw hue with green reflections, leading to a bright and aromatic nose of fresh citrus (lemon, lime), green apple, white flowers, and a subtle chalky minerality. On the palate, it is clean and refreshing, with lively acidity, delicate orchard fruit flavors, and a precise, dry finish that speaks to the region’s terroir.

Light to medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, this is a versatile wine ideal for casual sipping or pairing with lighter fare. Enjoy it with seafood, fresh salads, grilled chicken, or soft cheeses like goat cheese and brie. It's also a fantastic entry point for those exploring white Burgundy, offering quality and typicity at an accessible price point.

Description

Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages 2023 comes from the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, an area known for producing vibrant and accessible expressions of Chardonnay. The region enjoys slightly warmer conditions than northern Burgundy, allowing grapes to ripen fully while still retaining the freshness and structure that define classic Burgundian whites.

The wine is made entirely from Chardonnay sourced from selected villages across the Mâcon-Villages appellation. Limestone and clay soils help give the wine its balance of fruit expression and mineral precision, creating a style that is both lively and refined.

Produced by Maison Louis Jadot, one of Burgundy’s most respected and historic négociant-producers, the wine reflects the house’s dedication to regional authenticity and consistency. Fermentation in stainless steel helps preserve purity, freshness, and fruit clarity.

Style

A dry, medium-bodied Chardonnay that strikes a balance between freshness and gentle roundness. It has more texture than very light whites, but remains bright and easy-drinking rather than rich or heavily oaked.

The wine feels smooth and approachable, with enough body to pair with food while still retaining a lively, refreshing edge. It sits stylistically between crisp, mineral-driven whites like Chablis and fuller, creamier Chardonnay styles.
