The Crushed Grape

Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny “Les Grièves” 2025

Regular price £18.99

A fresh and elegant southern Burgundy Chardonnay with bright citrus, ripe orchard fruit, and a smooth mineral finish. Vibrant, balanced, and wonderfully approachable.

From the southern part of Burgundy, specifically the Mâconnais. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this cuvée hails from the Lugny commune, with “Les Grièves” referring to the stony, gravelly soils that lend the wine its characteristic freshness and minerality.

This vintage is expected to showcase the generous sunshine and favourable conditions of 2025 in the Mâconnais, resulting in fruit-forward aromas, balanced acidity, and a smooth, approachable texture.

Fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, this Chardonnay showcases a pure, fruit-forward style, unmarked by oak, allowing the natural brightness of the grape and terroir to shine through. The nose is aromatic and inviting, with notes of ripe peach, citrus, and white flowers, while the palate is round and smooth, balanced by lively acidity and a clean, mineral finish.

Perfect as an aperitif or paired with seafood, poultry, or light pasta dishes, this wine offers excellent value and a classic introduction to the elegant whites of southern Burgundy.

Description

Louis Latour Mâcon-Lugny “Les Grièves” comes from the Mâconnais in southern Burgundy, an area known for producing vibrant and expressive Chardonnay with excellent balance and accessibility. The vineyards around Lugny benefit from limestone-rich soils and a slightly warmer climate than northern Burgundy, allowing grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness and aromatic clarity.

“Les Grièves” refers to a specific vineyard site characterised by light, stony soils that contribute to the wine’s bright mineral character and lively structure. These conditions help produce Chardonnay with both fruit generosity and refreshing precision.

Produced by Maison Louis Latour, one of Burgundy’s most historic and respected family wine houses, the wine reflects a commitment to traditional Burgundian craftsmanship combined with careful modern vinification. Fermentation in stainless steel preserves fruit purity while maintaining the crisp, vibrant character that defines the Mâcon-Lugny style.

Style

A dry, medium-bodied Chardonnay that balances freshness with gentle roundness. It has more texture than very light whites but remains bright and refreshing rather than rich or heavily oaked.

The wine sits comfortably in the approachable southern Burgundy style — lively, fruit-forward, and elegant without being heavy. It delivers a smooth mouthfeel supported by crisp acidity, making it equally enjoyable on its own or with food.
