Description

Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos Tinto is a refined red from Portugal’s celebrated Douro region, an area renowned for its dramatic terraced vineyards and schist-rich soils. While globally famous for Port, the Douro has firmly established itself as a source of structured, characterful dry reds that combine depth with freshness.

The wine is crafted from a blend of traditional Douro grape varieties, typically including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca. Touriga Nacional provides structure and aromatic intensity; Touriga Franca adds elegance and balance; Tinta Roriz contributes body and backbone; and Tinta Barroca lends roundness and approachability. Together, the blend reflects the layered complexity and harmony that define modern Douro reds.

Produced by Casa Ferreirinha - one of the region’s most historic and influential estates - Papa Figos continues a legacy dating back to the 18th century. The winery has played a pivotal role in elevating Douro table wines, combining heritage with modern precision to craft wines of authenticity and consistency.

Style

A dry Douro red with dark berry fruit, spice, and supple tannins. The wine combines the richness associated with the Douro with a softer, more approachable style.

In simple terms: a smooth and generous Portuguese red — rich enough to feel comforting, but polished enough for everyday drinking.

  • Color: Deep ruby red with violet hints
  • Aromas: Intense notes of ripe red and black fruits (cherry, blackberry, plum), subtle floral notes (violet), and hints of spice, cocoa, and cedar
  • Palate: Smooth and well-structured, with a good balance between round tannins, fresh acidity, and juicy fruit flavors
  • Finish: Long, elegant, and harmonious with lingering fruit and a touch of spice
  • Its ripe tannins and balanced acidity make it especially well suited to grilled and roasted dishes, complementing the structured yet polished character typical of reds from the Douro.
  • Grilled & Roasted Meats (beef, lamb, pork)
  • Hearty Pasta Dishes (ragù, mushroom-based sauces)
  • Aged Cheeses (cheddar, Manchego, Parmesan)
  • Traditional Portuguese Cuisine (chorizo, roasted duck, feijoada)
  • Serve at 16–18°C to allow the wine’s structure and aromatics to fully express themselves.
  • Decanting for 30–45 minutes will enhance integration and depth.
