The Crushed Grape

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2023

Regular price £29.99

A refined and terroir-driven Chianti Classico with vibrant red fruit, elegant structure, and classic Sangiovese precision. Fresh, balanced, and beautifully composed.

Produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes, sourced from vineyards planted on a mix of galestro, limestone, and clay soils, which contribute to the wine’s signature minerality and structure. The wine is aged for twelve months in a combination of French oak barrels and large traditional casks, a technique that enhances its complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit. With an alcohol content of around 13.5 to 14%, it delivers both finesse and concentration without overpowering the palate.

Bright cherry, redcurrant, and wild strawberry lead the palate, layered with violet, dried Mediterranean herbs, and subtle spice. Notes of black tea, leather, and gentle cedar add depth, while mineral tension and fresh acidity carry through to a clean, persistent finish.

A true reflection of its prestigious terroir and the winemaking expertise of one of Chianti Classico’s most revered producers. With its refined structure, layered complexity, and aging potential, this wine can be enjoyed now for its youthful vibrancy or cellared for further development over the next eight to twelve years. It is an exquisite representation of the timeless beauty and enduring tradition of Sangiovese, making it an essential choice for lovers of authentic Tuscan wines.

Description

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico is a benchmark expression of Chianti Classico, the historic heartland of Sangiovese in Tuscany. The estate lies in the western sector of the appellation, where a combination of altitude, galestro and limestone soils, and cooling breezes allow for wines that balance ripeness with freshness and structure.

Produced by Isole e Olena, one of the most respected names in the region, this Chianti Classico reflects decades of dedication to quality and site expression. The estate has long championed Sangiovese as a noble variety capable of finesse and longevity, focusing on meticulous vineyard management and restrained oak usage to preserve varietal purity.

The 2023 vintage offered excellent growing conditions, delivering expressive fruit, natural acidity, and refined tannin structure - hallmarks of a classic and age-worthy Chianti Classico.

  • Serve at 15–17°C to preserve freshness and highlight aromatic detail.
  • A decant of 20–30 minutes will help open the bouquet and integrate tannins.
  • Use a medium-bowl red wine glass to enhance aromatic precision while maintaining balance.
  • This vintage is approachable now and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 6–10 years when cellared under cool, stable conditions.
