R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Blanco 1991
An exceptionally rare and mature white Rioja from one of Spain's most celebrated traditional wineries. Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Blanco 1991 represents a remarkable expression of López de Heredia's dedication to extended maturation, classical winemaking and the extraordinary ageing potential of fine white Rioja.
Produced predominantly from Viura, complemented by Malvasía, the wine underwent approximately ten years of barrel ageing before further maturation in bottle. Now 35 years from harvest, it offers collectors an increasingly scarce opportunity to acquire one of the estate's distinguished historic white Gran Reserva releases.
Excellent original condition, with impeccable provenance. Purchased directly from R. López de Heredia and retained in its original cardboard case (OCB), the wine has been carefully stored in a purpose-built private wine cellar since acquisition. The bottles have remained in private ownership throughout, with no intervening transfers or secondary-market handling. Offered as individual 750ml bottles, securely repacked in protective wine packaging for dispatch. Original case packaging is not included with individual bottle purchases.
Established in 1877 in Haro, R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia remains one of Rioja's most respected family-owned producers.
The winery is renowned for its unwavering commitment to traditional methods, including the use of its own cooperage, extended barrel maturation, manual racking and prolonged bottle ageing.
Its white Gran Reservas are particularly celebrated for their remarkable longevity and distinctive ability to develop complexity over several decades, making them among the most sought-after traditional white wines of Spain.
Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Blanco 1991 is composed of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasía, sourced from the estate's vineyards in Rioja Alta.
The wine underwent approximately ten years of ageing in oak barrels, with twice-yearly manual racking, before bottling without filtration and further maturation in bottle.
This prolonged ageing process is central to the wine's character, allowing the development of exceptional aromatic complexity while preserving the structure and freshness associated with López de Heredia's traditional white Rioja.
