Founded in 1877 in Haro, R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is among Rioja's most historic and respected family-owned wineries.
The estate is internationally renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking, including extended ageing in oak barrels, manual racking and prolonged maturation before commercial release.
Its Gran Reserva wines are produced with an emphasis on longevity, elegance and the development of complexity over decades.
The 1991 vintage is regarded as one of the notable years for traditional Rioja, producing wines of excellent balance, structure and ageing potential.
Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva is traditionally composed of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo, sourced from the estate's own vineyards.
Following fermentation, the wine undergoes approximately ten years of maturation in oak barrels, with regular manual racking, before further ageing in bottle.
The resulting wine is a classic expression of mature Rioja, distinguished by its refinement, savoury complexity and enduring freshness.
93 Points — Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva Tinto 1991 is an increasingly difficult-to-source release from one of Spain's most collectable traditional producers.
With more than three decades of bottle age, the wine offers collectors an opportunity to experience the distinctive evolution of López de Heredia's long-matured Gran Reserva style.
The combination of a respected vintage, extended barrel maturation and limited availability makes the 1991 particularly appealing to enthusiasts of mature Rioja and historically significant Spanish wines.
