Fresh yet gently rounded in texture, it combines white fruit and delicate floral aromas with subtle mineral, herbal and spicy notes.
The style is dry, vibrant and highly versatile, offering something genuinely different for customers interested in Spain's lesser-known native grapes.
The producer describes it as a pure expression of Malvar with freshness, creaminess and unmistakable Madrid character.
Bodega Raíces Ibéricas focuses on preserving and promoting Spain's wealth of indigenous grape varieties, producing wines that highlight grapes rarely encountered outside their traditional regions.
Malvar is a native Spanish white variety grown predominantly around Madrid, although small plantings also exist elsewhere in central Spain. Raíces Malvar comes under the Vinos de Madrid DO, making it an excellent example of the region's local white-wine heritage.
The vineyards are around Villarejo de Salvanés, at approximately 680 metres altitude. The wine also receives time on its fine lees with bâtonnage, helping explain the rounded, creamy texture alongside its naturally fresh character.
A fresh, dry and gently textured Spanish white, combining vibrant fruit with an appealing softness on the palate.
Expect white fruit, delicate florals and subtle herbal and mineral notes, with time on the lees adding a lightly creamy texture while preserving the wine's freshness.
Malvar brings a distinctive character that sets it apart from more familiar Spanish white varieties, balancing aromatic freshness with understated savoury complexity.
In simple terms: fresh, floral and gently creamy, with a clean mineral finish.
- Nose: Fresh and expressive with white fruit and white flowers, accompanied by delicate mineral and herbal notes.
- Palate: Dry and fresh with a surprisingly rounded, gently creamy texture. White fruit is complemented by floral, mineral and lightly spicy characteristics.
- Finish: Clean and persistent, balancing fresh fruit with subtle savoury and mineral notes.
- Seafood & Shellfish – freshness works beautifully with prawns, mussels and mixed seafood.
- Grilled Fish – particularly good with simply prepared white fish.
- Pasta – suitable for both lighter and creamy sauces.
- Risotto – its texture works particularly well with richer risotto dishes.
- Rice Dishes – a natural Spanish food pairing.
- Young Cheese – particularly mild, creamy cheeses.
- Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C.
- There's no need to decant. A medium-sized white-wine glass will give the floral aromatics enough room to develop without allowing the wine to warm too quickly.
- Best enjoyed in it's youth rather than keeping for extended cellaring.
