The Crushed Grape

Torres Celeste Crianza 2022

Regular price £15.99

A bold and structured Ribera del Duero Crianza with concentrated dark fruit, refined oak spice, and polished tannins. Powerful yet elegant.

From Spain's Ribera del Duero region, crafted exclusively from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grapes. This vintage exemplifies the rich and nuanced character typical of high-altitude Tempranillo wines.

Blackberry and dark cherry dominate the profile, layered with notes of plum and subtle cassis. Oak aging contributes hints of vanilla, toasted spice, cocoa, and cedar, while delicate nuances of dried herbs and earthy undertones add depth. The finish is smooth yet structured, with concentrated fruit and refined spice lingering persistently.

The Celeste range is Torres' flagship wine from Ribera del Duero, reflecting the region’s high-altitude vineyards (750-900m) and powerful Tempranillo expression. The name “Celeste” (meaning celestial or heavenly) is inspired by the night sky over Ribera del Duero’s vineyards, which are among the highest in Spain.

Description

Torres Celeste Crianza is a refined expression of Spain’s prestigious Ribera del Duero DO, a high-altitude region known for producing structured, age-worthy Tempranillo wines. The vineyards sit at elevations of 700–900 metres above sea level, where warm days and cool nights create significant diurnal variation. This preserves acidity while allowing full phenolic ripeness, resulting in wines of depth and balance.

Crafted from 100% Tinto Fino (the local name for Tempranillo), the wine reflects Ribera’s hallmark intensity and structure. Aging in French and American oak barrels enhances complexity, integrating spice and refinement while maintaining fruit purity.

Produced by Familia Torres, one of Spain’s most historic and internationally respected wine families, Celeste represents their Ribera del Duero project. The winery combines meticulous vineyard selection with modern precision to create wines that express both power and elegance.

Style

A dry, full-bodied Ribera del Duero made entirely from Tempranillo, offering concentrated dark fruit, polished tannins, and structured freshness from the region’s high-altitude vineyards. Oak ageing adds layers of vanilla, cocoa, and spice without overwhelming the fruit, giving the wine a modern, refined feel rather than rustic power.

In simple terms: a rich and polished Spanish red — powerful enough for steak and roast meats, but smooth and approachable enough to enjoy without needing long ageing.

  • Appearance: Deep dark cherry red hue.
  • Aroma: Enticing aromas of blueberry jam, complemented by notes of cocoa, dried plum, and spices such as vanilla and pink peppercorn.
  • Palate: Light, silky, and supple on the palate, with a harmonious balance of fruit and oak-derived flavors.
  • Finish: Long, elegant, and fruit-driven with lingering spice and oak notes
  • Herbed and Savory Meat Dishes: The wine's fruit and spice notes complement the flavours of dishes like rosemary lamb or thyme-infused roasted pork.
  • Smoked Meats: The smoky undertones in the wine enhance the depth of smoked sausages or brisket.
  • Cheeses: Mild Cheddar, Brie, and Manchego cheeses harmonize with the wine's balanced profile.
  • Serve at 16–18°C to allow its depth and structure to fully express themselves.
  • A decant of 45–60 minutes is recommended to open the aromatics and soften the tannins.
  • Use a large Bordeaux-style glass to maximise aeration and showcase its layered complexity.
  • This vintage is drinking well now and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 6–10 years if stored in cool, stable conditions.
