Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2021

Regular price £12.99

A fresh, polished Provençal red with Cabernet and Syrah character, offering dark berry fruit, spice, and subtle Mediterranean lift. Balanced, food-friendly, and quietly distinctive.

The Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2021 is a wine that beautifully marries Mediterranean warmth with Burgundian elegance, reflecting both its Provençal terroir and the heritage of its founders. Domaine de Triennes was established in 1989 by two of Burgundy’s most respected names, Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, who sought to craft wines of finesse and authenticity in the sun-drenched hillsides of the Var. Their philosophy of “less is more” guides the winemaking, allowing the vineyards and terroir to express themselves with clarity and purity.

The 2021 cuvée blends Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, producing a wine of both structure and aromatic depth. In the glass, it reveals ripe blackberries, cassis, and cherry, layered with notes of black pepper, dried herbs, and subtle oak spice. The palate is generous yet refined, with smooth tannins, fresh acidity, and a balance of fruit richness and herbal lift. Its medium to full-bodied structure makes it versatile, equally at home with fine dining or more rustic Provençal fare.

Perfect with grilled lamb, slow-braised meats, ratatouille, or aged cheeses, the Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2021 is a wine of character, finesse, and timeless Mediterranean charm. It stands as a true testament to what can be achieved when Burgundy’s savoir-faire meets Provence’s terroir.

Description

Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2021 comes from Domaine de Triennes in Provence, a property founded with serious Burgundian pedigree but focused on the Mediterranean south.

The Les Auréliens range is intended as the estate’s more accessible line, yet it often shows a level of polish and balance above simple regional reds. In the rouge, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah provide both structure and southern warmth, but the wine retains freshness rather than becoming broad or heavy.

The 2021 vintage naturally leans a little more on freshness and structure than warmer, richer years, which suits the blend very well. Instead of plush sweetness, the wine shows cleaner fruit, spice, and an easy gastronomic shape.

This is a smart southern French red for those who want something more polished than a basic Vin de Pays or IGP bottling, but still relaxed and food-friendly.

Style

A dry, medium-bodied red with supple tannins, ripe dark fruit, and a balanced southern French feel. It is fresher and a touch leaner than the 2022, with more emphasis on agility and drinkability.

In simple terms: a polished Provençal red — dark-fruited, lightly spiced, and more versatile than heavy Mediterranean reds.

  • Nose: Black cherry, plum, pepper, and herbs.
  • Palate: Dark fruit with light spice and a fresh, savoury edge.

  • Tomato-Based Pasta – Good acidity and spice make this an easy pairing.
  • Charcuterie – A strong fit for southern French red styles.
  • Semi-Hard Cheeses – Good with nutty, savoury cheeses.
  • Serve at 15–17°C.
  • A brief 15–20 minutes in the glass is enough.
  • Use a medium red wine glass.
  • Best enjoyed now and over the next 3–5 years.
