Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2022

Regular price £12.99

A richer, riper expression of this Provençal Cabernet-Syrah blend, with plum, blackberry, spice, and smooth southern warmth. Generous, polished, and highly adaptable.

The Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2022 is a wine that embodies the perfect meeting point of Burgundian finesse and Mediterranean warmth. Domaine de Triennes was founded in 1989 by two of Burgundy’s most legendary figures – Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – who sought to bring their philosophy of precision and elegance to the sun-drenched hills of Provence. Their vision has always been simple: respect the land, work organically, and allow the terroir to speak through the wine.

The 2022 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, combining the structure and depth of Cabernet with the spice, juiciness, and aromatic lift of Syrah. Aged for 12 months in seasoned French oak barrels, the wine offers a bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and ripe plum, layered with notes of black pepper, garrigue herbs, and subtle cedar. On the palate, it is generous yet refined, with smooth tannins, lively freshness, and a polished texture that reflects both Mediterranean terroir and Burgundian restraint.

Elegant but approachable, the Les Auréliens Rouge 2022 is versatile at the table – pairing effortlessly with dishes from grilled lamb and beef ragù to roasted Mediterranean vegetables and aged cheeses. Its balance of richness and freshness ensures immediate drinking pleasure, while its structure gives it the potential to evolve gracefully over the next five to seven years.

Description

Triennes Les Auréliens Rouge 2022 shows the same polished southern Provençal style as the 2021, but with a little more ripeness and flesh from the warmer vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah remain the core of the blend, giving structure, dark fruit, and spice, yet the estate’s winemaking keeps the wine balanced and controlled rather than heavy.

Compared with the 2021, this vintage feels a little more generous and rounded through the middle, with broader fruit and slightly softer overall presentation. That extra ripeness makes it especially easy to recommend to those who enjoy Mediterranean reds with comfort and warmth, but do not want something excessively tannic or rustic.

Style

A dry, medium-bodied red with softer fruit concentration and a slightly riper profile than the 2021. It remains balanced and food-friendly, but has a little more immediate generosity.

In simple terms: a smooth southern French red — richer and warmer than the 2021, but still fresh enough to stay versatile.

  • Appearance: Deep ruby-purple.
  • Nose: Blackberry, plum, spice, herbs, and light cocoa.
  • Palate: Ripe dark fruit with smooth spice and southern warmth.

  • Beef Pasta – Works well with richer sauces.
  • Charcuterie – Still an excellent all-round pairing.
  • Hard Cheeses – Good with mature but not overpowering cheeses.

  • Use a medium red wine glass.
  • Best enjoyed over the next 3–5 years.
