Triennes Saint Auguste 2020
A concentrated, premium Provence red with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot depth. Dark-fruited, structured, and impressively serious.
The Triennes Saint Auguste is the flagship red of Domaine de Triennes – a wine that represents the estate’s very best cuvées and the harmony of Mediterranean richness with Burgundian finesse. Founded in 1989 by two of Burgundy’s most iconic figures, Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Triennes has long embodied the philosophy of crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines from the sun-drenched landscapes of Provence.
Carefully selected blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, with a touch of Merlot in some vintages, aged for 12 months in seasoned oak. In the glass, it shows a deep, dark ruby hue and an expressive bouquet of black cherry, cassis, and ripe plum, lifted by hints of nutmeg, clove, Provençal herbs, and subtle cedar. On the palate, it is powerful yet refined: layers of dark fruit and spice are framed by fine-grained tannins, a velvety texture, and a backbone of freshness that balances its concentration. The finish is long and persistent, carrying notes of fruit, oak spice, and Mediterranean garrigue.
As the Domaine's prestige cuvée, Saint Auguste is crafted for both immediate impact and long-term ageing. While its ripe fruit and supple texture make it approachable now, its depth and structure ensure that it will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 10–15 years.
Perfect alongside roast lamb, venison, ribeye steak, or rich Mediterranean stews, this wine elevates dining occasions with its combination of power, elegance, and Provençal authenticity.
Triennes Saint Auguste 2020 is the estate’s more ambitious red and shows just how serious Provence can be outside the rosé category. Built from the best lots of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, and matured in French oak, it has a scale and structure far beyond the everyday wines in the range.
The 2020 vintage gives the wine concentration and ripeness, but the estate’s style keeps it composed and fresh enough to avoid heaviness. There is real density here, but also enough precision and spice to prevent the fruit from becoming monolithic. This is a red built for dinner tables and short- to mid-term cellaring rather than casual sipping.
This wine offers something unusual and compelling: a premium Provence red with true seriousness and excellent value relative to better-known prestige appellations.
A dry, full-bodied red with concentrated dark fruit, definite tannic structure, and an oak-aged, premium profile. It is much more serious than the estate’s easier bottlings, but still polished and balanced enough to drink now with air.
